I have a high poly prop model, but I have no idea how to uv map it. I use 3ds max 2009 and 2010. I tried uving "cage" and then turbosmoothing it, but that creates stretched checkers on edges of the model. And mapping hi-poly mesh is nearly impossible since it makes my pc very slow in UV window.

I used Mudbox back in 2009/10 but stopped to pick up Zbrush 3.5 since it had introduced hard surface tools then. I downloaded Mudbox 2014 a few months ago and it looked exactly the same as the 09 version. Has Autodesk done anything with Mudbox in the last 5 years?

Its only when I use "show hardware maps", and for this specific use I can't use 3 point shader, I'm doing a UV Transfer. Max 2009 SP1. Never did this before, but now whenever I turn on show hardware maps, the model turns completely black.
