What are real innovations in CG today ? What are the recent real evolutions we've seen so far ? -Rendering : Redshift / Octane --> Cross soft with special big point for Eevee --> Blender-Modeling : Polyenstein and Mesh fusion --> Modo equivalent do exist but the innvation did come from modo. -Sculpting : Zbrush --> but see…
You can do this , but if it's for games you don't need to care about quad modelling and sub-D. Just bake bevel shader on sharp edges if you want rounded edges . Decades ago we just blur normal map around the splits and it was perfectly ok .
@Chimp: Thanks, I think you're right- cohesiveness could (and should be) better. @Ganon: Certainly, thanks for catching that. @Mrandk: Wow, thanks so much for all the input. Color in the texture is something I definitely think I can benefit from for sure as I did some of that in the bamboo texture and I think it worked…
I am thinking about it for a while already but still not sure. Looks like such kind of scripting is going to become completely AI territory soon and would decimate coders in masse. Way before image generative AI would kill all the game art specific jobs. Will be like lingva latina and philosophy , things you tried to…
I've had an unhealthy obsession with wanting to contribute to this thread. :p Over a decade of waiting to get my first greentooth in a game finally paid off - I certainly didn't account for the levels of compression the intro cutscene would have though, so it's a pretty hard one to see :# Dead Island 2 - First Cutscene…
Not an AD but I lead a team. Here's some principles I try to follow (yeah, it's not that easy ;) ): * Delegate - don't hog the coolest stuff for yourself if someone in the team can do it better * Delegate - give people the chance to grow, even if the task might seem a bit too big * Delegate - if people fail, try to let…
Your highpoly really shows some nice details. It's a shame they don't translate so well onto you low. But the reason for this is not your low polycount on your LP mesh. The reason is that most of your edges an face-angles are not optimized to bake well. Your edges should be smoother and geometry details that will be…
Thanks guys! DWalker - Cheers for the crits. The curtains are very basic at the moment, I definitely want to do something with those. They're a bit bare at the moment and just use a tiling texture. I'll do a few variations of these. I have added in a bit of water damage and some more rain effects, that was always the plan!…
[ QUOTE ] I never said Monolith was a bad game developer. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah everyone, leave him alone! He meant crap in a good way. I'm kickin' facts and opinions backed by E3 show judges, several Game of the Year awards across 3 titles for over a decade. Oh yeah, and Ive played all these games. The characters in NOLF2…
Well the general default settings of the cars lean toward oversteer. If you look at the spring, bound/rebound rates they're all rear-biased stiff. Which, actually, is the opposite of the majority of cars out there. In general, road cars are set up for understeer because it's much safer. But yeah the was the main thing I…
