for a portfolio reel i always suggest going higher specs, the object of a portfolio is to WOW people with awesome art, they should see something and go "THATS AWESOME!" not go "hmm thats awesome for a 40 poly model of a dragon fighting a bear using only 64x64 texture" if you have to explain to your audiance why your work…
Wow thanks everyone! I really appreciate all the nice comments! :) It was my favorite gameloft project for sure. It was a ton of fun to work on! Something about painting on a 512 texture just feels right :P I should probably also clarify that only a few of the characters had super strict deadlines, I think most took around…
WORK The oil bugs me. It's not an easy material to simulate, but the specular map you currently use is waaay off. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmTTk5TO-HE[/ame] I'm curious as to how to do the heightmap/displacement map in UDK - can I see (part of) the material nodes? The work you have is nice, especially the…
If you want to increase the strength of the normal map, a quick way is open it in Photoshop, duplicate the layer, and set the duped layer to overlay. It will double the strength. Do not go too crazy or it will look jacked up. Edge padding is for mip mapping, or more specifically to fix the issues caused from mip maps. When…
"Well the stretching is coming from normal directions pulling the shading in certain directions. Its not something glitchy but natural, like pulling cloth. That it can work regardless is more the surprising thing imo." Yeah that's exactly my point - that's not "skewing", or at least not in the sense of "rays being cast at…
Hello Joakim. That Curves tool in Photoshop is performing a mapping of the colour values. You plug in a value A and it outputs a value B. In mathematics, the name of the device that does this is a "function." In order to transfer that Curves tool to a pixel shader, you need to devise a way to input a value A and get a…
Thanks everyone for your encouragement. PogoP - I mainly used the Standard, Clay and hPolish brushes, I find they are good for most things. SHEPEIRO - Thanks a lot for the comments. And also for those two images. I love the second one and will push the colour in my trees. I had much more varied colour in them before but…
@EarthQuake Thank you for putting an example together! I have some follow-up questions at the end of this reply, but they are nothing major. @pior Yeah a few features in Toolbag might just leave me wanting to always bake in it. ---- I don't want to turn this into a Toolbag vs Painter baking thread but since I am doing this…
i live in Kentucky, debt, welfare and poverty are extremely common. currently helping a professor with a website on the arts in eastern KY, trying to get a grant to really beef up the site and provide a much needed database of the arts/artists in east KY... i.e. 'hey give these kids some money for art programs!'. a lot of…
Gosh, I wish I could just open up your level and click all the check boxes to activate features... You lighting only image tells us a lot of important things: 1) Your materials (textures) are too dark. As you can see, even in the brightest of lighting areas, your screen shots are almost totally black. This is NOT a…
