Amazing. So can Unreal or any of these engines also generates some of the masks at runtime? Like a dynamic ambient occlusion or grime mask? I am imagining passing the lightmap into your material so that when you place your assets in your level, moss and grime will automatically collect in the dark recesses. Or maybe even a…
Yea, they author and and export at 16bit with a highly optimised 3Dc/BC5 encoder, which is much cleaner than DXT1/5 or the BC5/3Dc encoder that is currently available in UDK. I'm just hoping for the ability to import 16bit maps and use a similar or identical compression inside UE seeing as we don't have a tool like CryTiff…
Solved the problem but I think it's more a workaround. I took the audio file of the video and imported it to unreal and converted it to a sound wave. On play I play it and track the time it is playing. On Pause i stop the sound wave and the playback time and copy it. When I play it again i get the tracked playback time and…
Some copy pasta from geforce.com http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/articles/infiltrator-gtx-680-powered-unreal-engine-4-tech-demo-unveiled For those interested in the technology behind Infiltrator's impressive demonstration, here’s a brief overview of the features on show: * New material layering system, which provides…
OK, here are my results. These are all 128x128 bakes for MAXIMUM SPEED so ignore the ugliness please. First up I have a normal map baked in 3ds Max with Render to Texture, applied to a mesh that had tangents included, imported with Import Normals: Obviously not synced. Here's the next one. This is the same mesh exported…
because they've used (assumingly) an in-house engine for all their games until now.. I'd rather see them continue using an in-house engine rather than going for a third party one.. I prefer companys having their own engines and what not rather than everyone relying on the same one in the end.. global federation of unreal…
I'm wondering if you guys had an idea about a problem I'm currently facing. I'm trying to do some triplanar projection mapping in worldspace. I just can't figure out the proper way to compute my normals properly. Since I'm in worldspace, I can't rely on the data provided by the mesh using the shader. As far I'm aware,…
I massively enjoy the fact that my opinion about something as banal as the specular highlights in Unreal makes someone so irrationally butthurt. But anyway, load up the Mobile Temple example and you'll see what I mean. It's still super happy shiny fun time. What I am excited about is I that I can more easily overcome it in…
I built UE4 on a laptop (a really low-end laptop that took me 3.5 hours to build... but I was just really excited), then I moved the folder with all the built source onto my PC and it just ran normally. The only problem is that the editor binary will still create project files inside the user folder by the name of the…
I hate how Adobe now Epic is requiring their product to be subscription-based. Now instead of paying it off upfront, I have to pay for it indefinitely until I stop using their product. When I start out as an indie developer, I won't have a large income and it seems that this will get expensive quickly in the longterm. 1…
