It's all about balance. I work a lot, often up to 16 hours a day between my day job and my portfolio. Every once in a while you have say fuck work and take your family out to the park or huddle on the couch and watch a movie and eat some popcorn.
i7, 16 gigs of ram, GTX 770, and a 240 gig ssd will be easy on that budget. A 1000 watt power suppy is way overkill unless you want to do triple SLI in the future. Most cases will provide sufficient cooling, but you will probably want an after market heat sink for the processor.

well, in Blender if bake a texture, a high poly on to a low poly etc, I can have several different normal textures from several different materials all on one map in a single bake, I dont end up with 16 png files. just one, why cant SD or SP do that too?
