I don't know if I'm understanding the above correctly, but I found that sometimes when I rendered to texture from 3ds Max some of the maps wouldn't import into UDK. In the end (eventually) I found in photoshop that converting it from a 16 bit image to an 8 bit image made it work again?
You can set your edge padding when you pack your unwrap. It's the amount of pixels between each UV shell. This is to prevent edge bleed between UV islands for both baking and mip-mapping.(1 pixel=1 mip level up to 16 pixels=5 mip levels)
Hello ~ I've been working on a series of portraits for a group project in school. These are two I've recently finished. The blonde is supposed to be in her early teens, around 14, and the brunette is 16+. These are the two youngest characters in the series and I did struggle to convey age. Any feedback would be much…

Whats the main reasons (for a newbie in this topic like me) for baking maps (displacement 16 and 32 bit, normal maps...) in Xnormal instead of Zbrush (4R6 for example). Currently im doing it in zbrush but i have heart that its better to do in xnormal, why that exactly? More compatibility of the resulting maps (in which…
I'm looking for inspiration for making 3d models. I'm looking for concepts already drawn out so I can focus on texturing and modeling. Right now I'm thinking of either reimagining 2d art made for 16 bit games or taking an iconic character and stylizing that said character. For a 3d art portfolio, is this acceptable or not?…
I was thinking of posting some images tonight, but what I have so far is still so lacking that it'll have to wait until tomorrow. I'll get some sleep, try out a few more things and post something more fun in 16 hours from now.
i can confirm that i am modeling car parts 8-10 hour a day at work, after that my motivation to start modelling something at home is near zero even if you manage to somehow motivate yourself, its not very healthy to sit 16+ hours in front of a screen
im surprised at the sheer number of people raging about newer games (3D days on) and not so much people raging at older games of the 8-16 bit time frame? Seems alot of people rage at new games because there more popular and people ruin the experience for them? (TF2?)
On a minor note, the rifling curves along the barrel; this twist is what causes the bullet to spin. For pistols, you'll typically see one complete revolution every 16-32 inches. You'll note that the view down the barrel is what you see at the beginning of almost every James Bond movie:
