Lightmaps will also be different between most meshes, so you cant batch those together.

Could you be more specific with "flat"? Are you creating lightmaps? I don't see any shadows on the model.

But Cryengine has no lightmaps, and there is no baking time, there wasn't in CE2 either, both are powerful, both have pros and cons.

I think the idea of auto-LOD, auto-rigging, and auto-texturing/lightmapping is a juicy, low-hanging fruit...... :)

Area lights don't get rendered in real-time as far as I'm aware. They're only for baking lightmaps with.
