I did notice that for some reason if you have an older scene, sometimes the principle shader might need reconstructing. There should be some kind of 'update all shaders to latest version' or similar
Not to derail this too much but now you mention the 'latest drivers' I did actually have similar issues in 7 with the lastest wacom drivers which is why I switched back to the older drivers on the install disc that came with it.
