you kind of can't but also kind of can the main texture is just a simple color for the outline it looks like they're using a duplicate of the mesh where it has been expanded, has flipped normals and a flat black material. if you google for toon rendering you should find some nice examples. Which engine are you planning to…

Hello!! Hope you all like these models from Devil May Cry. The toon style is inspired from the concept by George Selps from capcom-unity for 10th anniversary of devil may cry. Thank you.
Hey Dustin! There's also this link that will take you to a google doc with a ton of information about polycounts, items submitted, concept sheets, the lore for each toon, and so on. Hope it helps :)
vray toon is the way to go! or use these mental ray shaders and tweak them to oyur liking http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=69829&highlight=mental+ray+shaders
Eyes are too big (even in the concept), Brows are to thick. The sword handle needs sculpting and i don't get the brick texture for the shield, beyond all that, she's a lovely toon!
Good stuff :thumbs up: Does have imo a graphic toon aesthetic. EDIT: "...since you are a proper hard surface modeller " Nah! as perna might've mentioned for those of us who rely on throwing more geo at an issue, just a bunch of knuckle dragging subd heathens : p
Fully agree with @FreneticPonies about the pug. Feels like a toon shader thrown on, with no attention to how it fits into the art style of the world. The environments are breathtaking, and the pug just feels out of place.
