"I hardened that edge" Why would you put a hard edge (the harshest, most abrupt change of shading possible) in the middle of a perfectly smooth surface ? You're basically asking for a low res texture to compensate for an infinitely sharp shading discontinuity. There is zero reason to do that. "... and applied Smoothing…
Not sure if this is what you want or not. Set shading to smooth. (Left-side bar, or W menu in edit mode) Check Auto Smooth (image below). You can sharpen based on angle slider, or by marking edges as sharp (in Edit mode, select an edge, hit Ctrl+E and Mark Sharp). In this old tutorial, I set up smoothing at 19:00ish.
You're modelling with free standing edges here which is a rather unique Blender thing. I love it and it's one of the reasons why i picked up Blender but in this situation i would just use straight poly modeling, fill the cylinder with a face and use j or knife. Not sure what benefits modeling with free standing edges could…
I'm yet to dive in Blender substantially so can someone explain me what the hell is happening here https://youtu.be/WNAm7TKfdD8?t=606 is it a round edge shader? is it bakeable? it seems like it was made with the kit from the previous post. If so it seems to put Modo's round edge shader to shame because it looks much…
I don't get the purpose of the Autosmooth option to be honest. I never used that. I just set the mesh to smooth shading in the T panel and mark the edges hard that should be hard and finally add a edge split modifier. That always worked for me. Still it bugs me not to understand what that auto smooth thing is useful for,…
