Matrices in Maya basically suck for that exact reason (can't be resized, must have fixed size at creation). Why not use an array of vectors instead? A vector is a good match for colours. Alternatively you can just use an array of floats 3x the size of # of verts. int $numVerts = `blah`;float $colArray[3*$numVerts];for… -

The main problem with the grass are the obvious linear clumps - especially on the lower right side. Smaller clumps and different textures would help. Crydev has a very nice grass tutorial at http://www.crydev.net/viewtopic.php?f=315&t=100319 -

The Maya calendar doesn't end, apparently it just resets at that point. A bit like how our years end at December 31st. In any case these volcanoes are all on or connected to the same tectonic plate, you'd expect some form of activity. You can't push land together somewhere without pulling it apart elsewhere... -
