It's not so difficult to use but It needs a bit of scripting to be user friendly. I will try to do something later this week. -

Big places might ask you to run the licence for a plugin or script past the legal department but otherwise it's ok. -

If you're really that strapped for cash, why not give Blender a try? There's no import/export limit and you can script it. -

I would suggest looking more into the technical side of character work. Like rigging, scripting, ... These people are in demand. -
