eh.. maybe im wrong, but that was about the only explanation i've heard much on. [ QUOTE ] Oxygen in the air, to be precise. Some scientists think that the air at the time of the dinosaurs contained a lot more oxygen gas than it does today. Since the oxygen animals breathe is used in chemical reactions that power their…
Had a problem come up that I spent most of the week on. Still can't figure out what's going on. I'll take some screenshots and post it up later. Tweaked a bunch of things and knocked out a lot of the small props on my list. Just a few more left, then need to make a lab behind the front desk. A few lightmass wierdness in…
Hey Paul you have some decent stuff and I think I might have some tips that can help you better present yourself: * You list yourself as an Environment Artist by your first piece is a character, you should either move it to the end of your portfolio or remove it. It's not terrible per-say but you clearly have more of an…
Right. You guys are making models for yourselves, you're making models to show off what you can do. People outside of Polycount aren't downloading your just-finished Q3 model. If it were easier to import models into D3/HL2/etc., you'd probably be doing a model for that, but it took the Dominance War contest to get lots of…
Hmmm I think you seem to miss the "feeling" of the heroes quite a lot. Like the pudge weapon above this concept doesn't really fit Juggernaut very well (in my opinion): a) Juggernaut's items (especially the masks) are usually very curvy, elegant and somewhat fierce. An aztec set is a pretty exotic idea and might work, but…
Thanks guys. Hahah i knew that someone would say something about the keystone. But i assure you that design would work. I have a reference book tittled "LOST CITIES - From the Ancient World" and that design is heavily influenced by a structure in Leptis Magna in Africa. In it, the archway is pretty much exactly the same as…
I'm not much of a concept artist, so I usually model from concepts that have already been created but I always concact the original artist and ask if it's alright if I plan to show it (if I'm just arsing around for practice, I don't tend to bother) and I always credit them where possible. No one I've asked has told me to…
@aaronindhouse "Take a look at any of these disciplines, and you will see that artists are producing things on levels at and beyond what the masters of the last renaissance achieved in their time." ...additionally, of course there are comparable accomplished CG artists indeed their work tends to benchmark the scope of…
If you need normal maps, etc... (even if not) I recommend just modeling them yourself. With a textured model you can easily render out whatever maps you need especially alpha. It definitely takes longer to initially set up for sure but you can get exactly what you want out of it. Good photo reference is still essential and…
Welcome, all! Time to get started on the second Monthly Environment & Prop Challenge for 2021! Special thanks to @MrBFox and @icegodofhungary for their concept suggestions! Remember if you don't finish in the time allotted, just keep plugging away and post when your work is finished. There's always some good progress that…
