Nop!, I used masks to extrude each step, then dynamesh, and then I I use "mallet fast_2" to create the layering effect, and planar to clean the cavities. Your off to a solid start there, what i would suggest is try not to keep (im looking at the gun) it not too blocky, the machine part feels like its made up from alot of extruding, i know i used to do the same thing, but try working with more curves and what not, and look for inspiration where ever you can find it… -

What is the shape of the majority of the length? A prism looks like. So I'd make a curve (in maya for, or whatever your 3d app is) and extrude a prism along it's length. Thanks! The bayonet I chose to leave out. It uses an odd, slim, spike style bayonet and I didn't like it that much so I left it off. Sling was simply a face extruded along a curve. @SpeCter Yep, when I try extruding the cage it goes towards the middle instead of outside. I somehow got it working. The normals was facing the right way in maya, but when I imported it to zbrush it was reversed. So I reversed the normals, exported, baked normal map.
