It's going to be a weird time when many AAA console games are targeting sub-1080p at 30 FPS and VR is going to need 1440P at 90. I really don't know what kind of titles Sony expects to be able to put out with the Morpheus, I'm expecting them to look much worse than console games and VR games on PC.
skankerzero said: I used to work with that guy. He hadn't done any art in his life before going to that school. He graduated from the advanced program, went right into AAA. His brains, memory, and health are intact. Working all day long for 1-2 years isn't for everyone but it produces quality results if you do it.
Well it's no Faggio... but sport bikes are cool in their own respect :) One thing I've noticed about a lot of models in GTA V is that the geometry and texture detail is rather limited compared to other AAA games, probably due to the large scope of the game. It would be cool to see a rendition of that bike at a higher level…
Specialize! Your work is a mix of AAA style/hand painted/etc. I would pick one style and focus on being awesome at that. At least starting out. Once you're working you can branch out more once you improve in one style. Your portfolio works I think. Larger images always are awesome.
High Moon has one slot open for a junior level engine programmer. Sorry to hear about this happening to local talent. We had a lot of guys wind up over there after the Deadpool layoffs, and I know several people from Trion wound up over there as well. The San Diego AAA Game Dev scene is shrinking!
One of the problems is that I can't describe the game. It's a unique, albeit simple, concept. I would rather not talk about it until the game is done and published. But I can say that in terms of art style, I am definitely looking at Blizzard's cartoony style rather than hyper-realistic AAA shooter style. Does that style…
I've seen it happen, it didn't really work out that great for the studio. They've went from a AAA studio to mid-tier casual. So a Hollywood comparison would be Dreamworks outsourcing it's entire staff and going from "How to Train Your Dragon" to making straight to DVD movies. AND EA already extensively uses outsourcing -…
Seems to me that a lot of people choose not to see the burgeoning hollywood parallels. The movie industry is mostly a business, an entertainment business, and it operates on catering to audiences. I don't know why gamers seem to look to AAA titles as some sort of vehicle for innovation, maybe in regards to tech, but it's…
You should mention what platform/specs are you aiming for. Low poly can mean anything from mobile phones, current gen consoles, PC or the really retro stuff (PS1 or Nintendo DS). And if you're following a PBR/AAA workflow, you'll still need to model a High Poly version to save the normal maps info from.
The majority of companies making childrens games and games licensed from animated movies are doing hand painted textures. People often overlook those companies, and yes I know it's not nearly as impressive to tell the girls at the bar that you are working on "Barbies Extreme Pony Makeover", but the pay is just as good and…
