"The thing is I want to try and save as much time possible" Then you have two choices : you either use a complex, high end workflow (Substance Designer, Painter, and so on ; and sculpting if needed) in order to create a small number of master textures and materials that can then be leveraged to build *all* your assets,…
So here are screenshots: And I have couple questions. 1st picture's normals are doomed because of me forgetting to make seams and marking sharp edges, so that could be the problem. In the 2nd picture there seems to be baked shading informations on the normal map from my low poly model, don't know why that is. The 3d…
M8ym8, your UVs aren't the issue. This looks like a triangulation issue due to the concave polygon and the fact that each software is using different triangulation methods, so they give different results. The example below shows two different methods to triangulate a mesh. There are many more. Different triangulation =…
Hi Steppenwolf and Biomag! Happy New Year! @Steppenwolf: Thanks for responding again and clearing up my confusion. I agree with what you meant by understanding the processes of using different software to create a product. I am experienced with using Zbrush, Photoshop, and other software and can produce quality work though…
Object scale doesn't affect the effects as far as I know, but your texel density/pixel ratio does. A tiny object that only takes up a small amount of pixels due to it's size on your UV sheet will have a much lower res if textured with the same layer/effect/texture as another island with more more space on the sheet. That's…
Maya has a free student version, and an LT version with less features but should be enough to start and is significantly cheaper than full pro. You can keep an eye out for Steam sales for Substance Painter/3D coat.I prefer 3D coat to SP for stylized stuff. The lighting is flatter and the interface is simpler. It also gives…
Thank you for taking the time to reply, could you elaborate on which parts you mean when you refer to the HP parts. As for the texturing this is my first time creating textures using Substance Painter, I will take a look at the link you've provided, I really do need more practice lots more. I've included a screenshot of…
Thanks @Zee_DeCoY! I'm liking your ideas, I'll try to incorporate them in the next pass. Not sure why the military version display is kinda flat (and I totally agree with you) but I've tried a bunch of different little things, so may be time to get a little more drastic... I'm thinking maybe some height details and…
Hey guys! Thanks for the positive comments :D I wanted to bump the thread only when i had something to show. Here is the little progress i made in the short time i have in most of my days: Claymore IED that i'm making. The idea is for it to be controlled via a board used to control electric gates. Some duct tape is missing…
Hey Kodde, so glad I found this. Exactly what I am looking for. I can't get the shader to work however... I have SP 5 installed and DirectX11 set as rendering engine, but it can't run Viewport 2 (goes back to legacy as soon as I turn it on). Warning: Viewport 2.0 is not supported by your current graphics configuration or…
