Baking is irreplaceable if you're doing normalmap-based bevels and fillets (in order to make a border edge look smooth when the existing geometry wouldn't allow it). Maybe, but I was just merely telling the OP that in my opinion it was worth learning all the texturing techniques and that photoshop was the foundation, being able to create a good material/texture from scratch in photoshop will give you understanding and greater control over your textures in substance or even Mari. This enables me to create accurate textures without any lighting information and I know exactly how they should look when lit. I don't plan to be painting 32k textures that would be crazy.
