hey sub, coming on well but it might be worth starting a thread for it- I dont think this thread is meant as a place to post continuous wips, and also the thread's definition of low poly is 500 or so, which you've got double tennis, cant wait to see the texture!
I'd say open to two sides: high poly games and low poly games. a 500 tris barrel is standard fare on current gen games is nothing special, but if your budget is low to begin with, the barrel has to be optimised. so many options, the humble barrel
@clandestine; Wow nice work there. Nice choice of model, because these lego models are great optimization projects. 500 poly's is a really nice achievement i.m.o. :poly121: @iLKke; great stuff these super low texture sizes. nice choice of highlighted and darkened colors
That is absolutely fantastic! I love the amount of character that went into this piece! grand work for sure. - Its been a while since I've done any lowpoly stuff. Here is one that is slightly above 500 with the body being 450 and the head 160 With two separate textures.
Thanks for the feedback guys. Just a small update on hoagie before i start a new piece. Got him under the 500 mark, ditched the opacity map, and sharpened the texture. Those robots look great Warby, pure machinarium style. The chef is also my favorite.
Hey guys! I'm a newbie to modelling, but I was inspired to make my first (almost) low poly model by the awesomeness of this thread. Any tips on getting this down to <500? Also, I haven't made his cat tail yet; is there a best practice for that? Tennis, that style looks amazing!
I thought I would post a character as well. Finished this this last fall, it was an art test for Gameloft up in NYC (did get me the job, combined with an environment art test as well). They limited me to 500 triangles and a 128x128 texture, was their company's spec for iPhone development of characters. :)
not yet david, there is still room for improvement , and im sure you can get that elefant unter 500 tris without making it look worse same with teh palm, leaft that segmentation and use maybe 5 or 6 sided circle for the trunk and it still looks good and fits the tread
A friend showed me this thread and being a guy who works on indie games as a modeler/texture artist/animator myself I just had to do a low poly character of my own. This is my first character that is less than 500 triangles (they are usually 1000-4000 triangles).
Slaught - nice Mario indeed ;) I've seen what Mario looks like in wireframe in Mario 64, it's not dissimilar to yours, but seemed to have quite a bit less polys. Possibly closer to 500. I was very surprised how low poly the hat was actually. I'll be interested to see it textured.
