One way, use an Attachment Constraint on the briefcase and animate the attachment to go from Hand to World when he lets go. Probably won't export to a game though.
so... is there a way to make the snap tools in 7 or 8 act like the snap tools in 6? I hate having to turn them off when I just want to move a vert using the axis constraints.

really it could be a simple as they were wanted features, but time constraints didn't allow of those to be tested and deemed stable enough for release. Rather have a grahpical hit than unstableness
