You should check out the Chateau de Chenonceau, my favourite Loire Valley castle, it has these two bridge-galleries, with a similar lighting, might help you :) -

what process did you use to remove the geometry to create the four slanted ovals above the grips in the side of the gun. Booleans? Delete faces and bridge? just wondering. -

i love the improvment. however, things are too bridge in the shadows. make them darker. I like it all much better when its all higher contrast. -

Face have too much depth. Eyes are too far back into the skull and nose bridge is too "high" Also, you should take a look at the eye-fold. -
Re: General dSLR advice
The Fuji is a bridge camera not a DSLR, so you'd be stuck with that lens. Again you should post what you'll use the camera for and how much you wanna spend.
