Alright I split the portfolio into 3 pages. So it should be a bit less like a restaurant menu with too many choices. Less intimidating now I hope. I have an 8x6 intuos 3 at work, and I like it alot. The Intuos 2 has buttons on the top that you click with the pen, but I didn't use them much because I had to look away from the screen and refocus. Under you're edit modifer panel where the functions of "extrude, ring, loop, ect." There should be a square # chart of buttons stating (1,2,3,4-30) at the near bottom. Yeah Max will only use one thread. I don't think there is a way to change this. For the Curve Editor, turn on the Selected and Animated Filters. And deselect objects before you hit the play button.
