Hey everybody! Less than 2 hours to pledge for Kingdom death: Monster on Kickstarter from our friend Poots! Go and be part of the family if you like what you see here or on the kickstarter page: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/poots/kingdom-death-monster lets see if we unveil also the last sculpture :D
Welcome to Polycount To your credit, I instantly recognised the characters from Heroes, and that is really impressive work with just untextured low polygon heads. As you've probably noticed if idling the forums, there's a lot of people who don't even manage that kind of likeness even with meshes around the million mark,…
Edit: nvm. Not sure what I was looking at with the ears. Was thinking about normal anatomy and they looked way off, but I guess thats where they were on the real sculpture But as others have said. You smoothed it way too much. You need to nail all of the proportions first. Practice helps but you need to practice correctly
that sculpture is actually very similar to a dream I had. Man on hospital bed bloats up and explodes a bunch of tendrils from his skin all over his body and yes... they were crystal clear, like the artwork. No blood anywhere. These Hundreds of writhing tenticles vibtrate and undulate... sounding like a bunch raddle snakes.
I think it could use a bit more tonal variation in the texturing. Look at the difference in values between the highlight and shadow areas in the face/collar and try to match that look. The highlights in the crown could also use some saturation as it looks quite monotonous. You've really nailed the sculptural forms in the…
What I would love to see someday is a game art museum. Something that has in depth descriptions of the art styles of that game/series, concept sculptures, concept art, final 3D models on display and giant replicas of characters and such. It really wouldn't be that far fetched in 10 years or so. It really wouldn't be that…
I'd argue that architecture is design. Sculpture is the art counterpart of that, perhaps? First, you need to figure out what art is. Then you need to figure out what games are. They both overlap in areas. Does it matter? No. Does it rile the internet masses up into talking about it on discussion boards, getting overly…
Here's a link that you might find helpful as you work on this project. http://www.scott-eaton.com/2007/the-archer He creates some really convincing digital sculptures in Zbrush, and has an emphasis on how the skin contorts over muscles as opposed to popping and bulging every muscle, which a considerable amount of 3D…
@"jacob thomas" Thanks! Yeah, I tried to fix it but the damage is already done xD. Day 21 I thought about working more on this character. I want to render it like a real sculpture instead of polypainting it. I don't know how to do it but I'll find the way. I'll add him more armor. WIP
Scotts courses are a great source of knowledge. I just finished his Anatomy for Artists course and I honestly know a lot more than before. Every lesson is thorough. I was just about to start his Digital Sculpture class, but decided to go for classical sculpting atm, but I am sure I'll come back to it.
