Ok, I think I'm done with this guy. I really want to move on to something else. Had this guy in my head since 2009, time to let it go :) I present to you Devil's Advocate
Cool trick sinistergfx. I get the problem in Max 9 sometimes, clicking in the middle of a face. It's funny, 2009 is just sitting there on my desk, untouched, need to get it going (when I'm not hella busy).
here's a nice page, might give you a few ideas: http://theodoregray.com/PeriodicTable/Elements/079/index.s7.html it pretty much depends on the purity of the gold. gold with silver in it will have a less yellow tone, and such.
I've also had this problem, and neither of the above helped, oddly enough :\ Max 2009 SP1. I did find a funny workaround though, which was assigning a 0% opacity material to the low poly :P
Im sure this is what Dave meant: Hopefully Im not confusing anyone further I didnt get good results until I made the chain closer to the surface, and set the falloff of the skin wrap to .001
Wouldn't be the first time a feature isn't in Maya, despite being easy to write... I haven't ever found an align as nice as Max's in Maya out of the box anyways, but I haven't tried 2009 yet.
Been acquainting myself with Max's UV tools, but feel the whole UV'ing process is kinda of clunky compared to Maya. Are there any good UV plugins for Max? I'm using Max 2009 and I'm open to exploring either free or paid plugins, thanks.
Max 2010 have something called "Texture Map" baking iirc, you can bake all kinda of special maps like SSS, Dust, Density and Cavity. In Max 2009- you need Polyboost.
I switched to Blender when the Autodesk purchasing department and retailers couldn't get me a copy of 2009 or 2010. Zero regrets, and I am actually working much more efficiently ever since. Win !
