I think it can depend on exactly what kind of 3D you do. This type of extreme "crunch" seems to only happen at AAA studios where your job is to create 138 different assets for a single level. You're a very specific cog in the machine at that point. On the other hand I know 3D modellers who work for large UI/UX design…
Do you have any evidence to this claim? I have been drinking about 4 to 5 energy drinks every week for like 3 years now. I am 6'2 and 168 pounds so not fat, and my liver is fine. I see comments like this from people of "Oh energy drinks make you fat and shit!" but never any proof to that. Just saying. Also it could be the…
Hey there Spiffy The Mesh scale is on 1 for all meshes. Yes i did triangulate the meshes before exporting them. I assume that if i exported the lowpolyesh i can easily duplicate it after, and just scale it in the normal direction so it acts as a cage. However xNormal keeps complaining^^ Well, ill try it out with a…
The tubes looked off- so I adjusted it a bit Seems like it might be a good idea to work in 2048 and then scale down. I hate scaling, but at least it isn't scaling down a 256 to a 128. Thanks Kincade and MasterFork Cadyw- yeah, I'm pretty excited about the textures- gotta get a low poly down first though! RoosterMAP- I'm…
When I made mine (images, here, and here) I did the gate in nine identical sections reducing the texture space quite a bit I ended up giving it a 2048x2048 sheet but a 1024 wouldn't have looked terrible. Then I did the ring of glyphs entirely separately to the rest of the gate and put the texture for that on its own sheet…
roosterMap: You are right, I definitely need to do more work on the lighting. I'm not going to do much more work on it until all of the untextured objects have at least rudimentary texturing though, since it will make such a huge difference in how the scene looks. Urbanmelon, sprunghunt: Thanks so much for your help guys.…
Yes, it only occurs when using a metalness profile. I am using the Unity 5 (Metalness) profile. This only started happening after the PS 2015 update. There is also another interesting symptom, if I select the layer for that material that should have layer style and a pattern overlay and manually add a layer style it gives…
i usually give wood an IOR in octane between 1.5 and 1.8 depending on what state its in. Really, most stuff you're gonna make, like plastics/concrete/leather/rubber will have an IOR between 1.3 and 2ish. 3+ are metals. Chrome will be around the max in octane of 8. Something less reflective like silver would be around a 4.…
Centimetres, because it's maya default. Although I often have characters which are build to be meter scale (1.8 cubes high) even though that means they are tiny. If the model goes to unity I change the units in the fbx exporter. A clear import / export chain from / to modeling is crucial if you don't want to guess values…
