Haven't touched maya for 5 years but isn't it because your joints/controler local axis point the same way as your left arm instead of beeing symmetrical ? -

This stuff should be forbidden anyways, proper version control is the way to go. Not stupid file iterations, which bloat both, the local and the server files - which totally sucks -

2011 and up allow local editing of container objects, meaning you don't need to open another file to edit the contents of the container. tis teh awesome!!1 -
