Thanks for the suggestions! Ive never heard of Pureref before and only just started using it - its awesome! I did have some reference but it was rather random. I have quite a bit to learn in terms of anatomy.

That could be down to however pureref does their on-top scheme or windows' compositing. What I do for this is go back to windowed mode where I have Painter/Designer shrunk way down, pick my color, then maximize again.
Thanks everyone! I'll make sure to check out pureRef, I've not heard about this before. I'll take a look at the wear and tear, more roughness variation. Generally my high poly needs some work here I think.
