Hey guys! I need advise. I having a trouble to bevel the hole inside there. Every time I try to bevel it the bevel will make the cylinder get hard edge and the rectangle hole become terrible.
Lame, so there's no way to go from max to xsi without that happening? its Its hard to see how the smoothing affects the object with all the extra tris, and its tedious trying to remove them all
This detail is giving me some trouble. Its a round hole with a hard transition into a straight hole in a cylinder. Bumping my base cylinder geo still gave me artifacts, quite visible from a distance.
Hi and thanks for the reply! I still have the same problem tho =/. The problem is that I can't put a control edge all the way across because that would make the transistion that's suppose to me smooth hard.
@IronLover64 If you're working off the reference image? then there appears to be a distinct hard edged border rather than a smooth transition between the two adjoining regions so I'd suggest modeling that shape as a separate object.
Check if you have hard edges too, if you are not sure press U~N (Phong Break Selection), they will be highlighted in dark blue, or just select all edges, RMB and select "Unbreak Phong Shading".
ZacD: i tried the technique, while it works good, i still see a hard edge around my floater, would you mind creating a small tutorial on how you achieved the welded part?
Also relayed, miauu makes an excellent workplane script for Max: http://miauumaxscript.blogspot.com/p/commercial-scripts.html Coming from Modo, this was a huge help. Once you get used to working with a work plane, it's hard to stop.
Just been watching Tor Frick live, the boys got those hard surface Skills http://www.livestream.com/snefer/video?clipId=pla_47c001af-e9a0-41fc-a5dc-78179bed5856&utm_source=lslibrary&utm_medium=ui-thumb
Because it breaks the purpose of the stack. You can't edit something under a manually edited edit_poly without breaking something. So it's like having collapsed the stack under the poly. But it's kind of hard to keep everything parametric.
