Those are all very good points and I've been saying myself that game makers need to shift from a product-based model to a service one (not so much here as elsewhere). So the question remains as to what type of service can be implemented that keeps the industry funded, but doesn't clash with the inevitable file-sharing… -

It's a bit of a non issue really. If you get a job requiring you to model/sculpt the surface of, say, a used brick wall, or the very specific surface qualities of an old tree, and the assets required from you are supposed to be delivered with diffuse, specular and normalmap ... there is simply no way for you to do the job… -
Re: Glass shaders and objects in maya.
Thats not going to work that well, especially since the labels aren't transparent, or as reflective as the glass. Take your diffuse shader (the one with the brown and labels), and make another one to use for transparency and reflectivity. Make the background brown white, and the labels full black (no text inside). Ramps… -

Could be voodoo. Weird bugs in skin, I think I have seen them all. My magic sauce when anything weird happens is this: Try using skin utilities.
