dwarf fortress!! It has ASCII or crude sprite graphics and the most horrible interface imagineable, but I can play it for hours and hours on end :) -

Check under Customize->Customize User Interface. If the command is available in there you can assign your own shortcut if there's nothing assigned by default. -

Was able to change in customize colors Customize - > Customzie User Interface -> Elements - Geometry -> Subselection I had to restart max to get it to work. -

you set it in customize user interface > Keyboard > views > Display selected with edged faces. i have mine set to shift + F4 -

Also you can crop the maya interface coz we already know it and then you can make a bigger pic of the knife itself !
