Don't be turned off by the cartoon aspect, it's intentionally like that so it's simpler to understand and replicate. But it teaches you construction of the form and proportions. I'd say it's better to start with that first and then move on to Scott's "How to Draw". Because Scott's book is harder/more technical.
You mean the paint that is over the metal? It gets scratched away showing the metal underneath. As far as i know AHH uses photoshop only for texturing, so it's not like there is an exact material, though you can easly replicate this in either Quixel or Substance.
For comparison: We were asked to choose a film and replicate it. I chose this shot from alien and added some stuff. Also for future reference, is it better I create a new topic for each project? I appear to be receiving very little feedback.
This is awesome man, get rid of paper NAO! Free Wifi option, free firmware updates, PDF, MP3... this thing is like the best notepad ever. I wonder what it feels like when you draw on it, if they replicate paper... it's an instant buy.
I’m looking forward to seeing your progress on this! One of the best things about this forum is how you can use it as a work-in-progress record of your project, posting visual updates as you work, and getting feedback along the way. It’s a very powerful way to work. Make a new Topic, and post your plans, then reply with…
Try making more of the tiles chipped, about halfway up like in the concept. Because right now it's not very noticeable. I didn't notice at first. I would try desaturating the reds even more. You chose an awesome screenshot to try to replicate. Good choice buddy.
Nice !! I love the way you were able replicated some of little n more intricate details from the concept. It'd, in all honesty, leave me baffled :poly142:. Side note : For some reason this reminds me of Mass Effect\ District 9 :P.
specular map.. from zbrush??? not sure what you mean by that though this maybe should be in the technical talk section. It depends what you want to replicate, metal - wood, concrete etc they all have different degrees of how light or dark you should make your specular
Yeah, you might be right. It's a bit difficult to tell because of the slightly different FOV. All the vertical lines in the original image are perfectly straight, but I wasn't able to replicate that in the engine. I'll try tweaking the dimensions a bit a see if I can get a better result. Thanks!
Since you're painting in your lights, it wouldn't hurt to crank up the self-illumination on your material. Also, The crystals on the side and the top of the head of the scythe are missing that gold border around them. Are you planning on replicating the same light source as the concept, or paint in a different light source?
