I believe that the position that I want to become is called a gameplay programmer, but I don't know if this is a specialized role, or if this is just a small part of the responsibilities that are split between programmers. It probably depends on the studio size and if it is a AAA developer, but can this be something that I…
This is where a lot my anxieties (concerning ai+art) are. While we're not there yet, it also isn't some far-fetched fantasy to imagine that that could be a possibility. And to a similar idea regarding topology, UVs and workflow: These systems were all developed primarily from the standpoint of human authorship, right? If…
I've had a positive experience working with studio recruiters when I've had the opportunity. As far as agencies go I don't know any save for a few 3rd party recruiters that may find something freelance from time to time and usually for generalist positions as far as art goes. It is far more saturated for art positions…
Gauss: I think most of us learn early on to build barriers within ourselves within which we able to limit how much, the circumstances beyond our control, can affect our motivation. Poop: Yeah, Unreal2 was the game where I knew I and the team I worked with had made great art but it was clear the public would mostly hate it…

I'll be going on Sunday so should be nice an quiet...I hope :) I'm mostly interested in the indie games and NS2. The AAA lineup is kinda poor this year so I'll probably go see the developer sessions and listen to them show off their games.
If you are aiming for more AAA types of studios I would say specialize in something, I would not recommend learning character art and creation of props at the same time since you only have a couple of months before you run out of money.
I think we'll start to see AAA studios grooming more "pet projects" in addition to their blockbuster titles. The risk/overhead is relatively low, and we'll stop putting all our eggs in one basket in the process. A recent example might be Grow Home.
I'd be interested in chatting with you sometime. More than a decade experience with shipped titles among the largest AAA franchises in the industry. You can view some examples of my work at www.flewda.com - you can contact me at my email josh.powers@gmail.com
