Hey, i started modeling yesterday for a short time. I use Maya 2014 and Unity3D 4.3 Here is my progress. The textures are only place holders. The wall is not round enough for this moment. I use the wall for the other side inverted, so i save memory. The netting wire is only a transparent texture with a normalmap and spec.
Interesting thread is interesting. Just out of curiosity, do pixologic ever have sales on zbrush? A workmate says he bought zbrush when he found it online cheap. I think if I ever find a copy for $400-500 I'll have to pick it up. (especially when the Australian dollar is kicking ass)
I never thought about looking into educational versions. Good call. As for testing it, I did do the demo, and thats all fine and good. Really tho, ive done demos of games plenty of times to find out the final product was ass. For 400 bucks, I want more than a 10 mins demo =)
I suppose the realism then will be given more by the new rendering techniques then by the high poly meshes, even because 40K triangles are jet close enough to obtain a good realistic shape with a proper tesselation. had this once with a large mesh; it was about 40k tris and massive in scale. I solved it by slicing the mesh in three which reduced tri count and scale of mesh. Wasnt ideal but for just a viewport grab it was fine. If thats not your issue then I'd be tempted to go with what everyone else has said, though not out of…

I remember the first Racer tut vid i watched and hearing "Ay yo fiffty, go grab that rocket launcher" was uttered about 400 times while still giving great information and showing off some great work. From then on I knew Racers vids would always be gems, thanks for another vid :)
grats all round. i'll be playing as a High Elf Jedi Kni... i mean, Swordmaster. or a White Lion. (i'm a HE player on the table). personally though, i feel there might have been better success if they had set this in the 40k universe, as the only "decent" sci-fi MMO's so far have been laughable.
