A level from Twisted Pixel's 'Splosion Man: (2009) [ame] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06Sz_HQIpt0[/ame] A level from Capcom Mobile's MaXplosion: (2011) [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOWlwo9dXh8[/ame] This is atrocious.
I would suggest one of the many vertex normal projection scripts. I'm not sure which works in 2009 though, that's a really ancient version. http://wiki.polycount.com/wiki/VertexNormal#3ds_Max_Tools
Pretty cool seeing ZBrush mentioned in that thread. I lurked for a couple years myself before joining in 2009, wish I had found out about polycount earlier though.
Yeah, his site is offline, bugger that. I remember some guys (Crazybutcher?) did an update of the shader, to which JI uploaded on the site (he called it R4) and it worked with Max 2009.
Well im using 3ds max and vray, does anybody has experience with that? (3ds max 2009 and vray 1.5) which are quite old, but i dont see any menu there for this...
Also check out the Spacing Tool. http://download.autodesk.com/us/3dsmax/2012help/index.html?url=files/GUID-D82476F1-FE3F-4B51-BC73-868B0A28281-309.htm,topicNumber=d28e60752
So while it may not be what you're asking for, I still thought I'd butt in and: http://www.renderhjs.net/textools/ Should work for max 2009 just fine and bring it up to date :)
i dont think you can beat topogun for the price. i personaly like its simplicity. http://www.cgbootcamp.com/tutorials/2009/11/18/topogun-basic-retopology-workflow.html
i have it too, but only sometimes, happens with all sorts of materials.... and with 2009 only workaround i know is to click on the bitmap name and then "open" it once again from the material editor
