Not really no. Because they perform culling which determines what can be seen, so you have to balance batching and individually drawing each object. This download has an updated version for Max which should have a better UI with proper names and the invertY attribute showing up properly. That is unless I forgot some semi colon or something alike when editing it in Notepad++ :) Download link (Maya 002 and Max 003 versions)
Love the bat Bronto!!! One thing that bothers me is the wing anatomy. You could try adding third finger, instead of bone out from his elbow.
