Update. After really studying Normal Baking Hard Surface techniques, I've finally gotten something I can be happy with. This is also the first time I have ever rendered from UDK. Diffuse Map with AO only: Normal Map:
Hey man, looking good but all your metal (including the bullets in the mag) is off. Can you post up flats? It looks to me like the diffuse for the bare metal parts is too bright and the specular is too dark. Jacque's metal guide:
when im working in night scenes i usually just cover the directional light dfisk with a texture on a plane... alpha, diffuse and emissive. that does it for me. nothing fancy, and looks good, as long as you dont have any day-night cycle.
Very nice stuff ! Excellent sculpts, I especially like the first creature and the female character with empty orbits. Too bad the diffuse hide them that much. I also like the sexy female but I'm disappointed by her breasts, they look fake...
A simple grey Lambert diffuse, with a Blinn (for metal) or Phong (for organic) render with a 3PL is all you need really. There is nothing magical, maybe post some example pictures on what you rendered vs. what you wish it would look like?
Most of these models are being rendered in Marmosets Tool Bag 2.0. The material varies from person to person. I myself will generally go with a medium gloss, high spec, and generally dark diffuse. Just depends on the material I may be trying to emulate.
Try using Surface Blur on the Diffuse a few times to get rid of those smaller details, then use nDo2 and adjust the strength and softness of it. There should be a curve setting you could try out that removes a lot of the smaller details too, I think.
Oh wow thanks for the compliment man. There's still plenty of things I'd do over and add to. think I'll just pose her, make her weapon and make one more pass over the diffuse and call it done enough for me now.
ok, i'm having the same issue as OP. I have a custom sky, gloss is white in the alpha of a white spec map, on a dark grey diffuse. The spec intensity is around 3 and the spec sharpness is maxed out and the best reflection i'm getting is:
beautiful work zbrush work. I see enough of these and its always the same sorta texture treatment. there is a bunch of black noise in that diffuse, alot of noise. Its actually very harsh to look at. other then that over all its very nice :D
