Not sure what that is but it is usually about size of the cylinder (half the size, half the segment count) + experimenting. Not sure if that's maya or max but in blender we use screw modifier to be able to change segment counts to match other cylinders so we can try & fail easily.
yo, good thread, would like to see some more ways of gettinfg by certain shapes. im gonna jump in with some maya action if you peeps dont mind, seas a little to max orientated at the mo.
Woah. This looks perfect! I won't download your file since I want to do it by myself, but thank you, really! You've done this with Maya? I would have loved to see how you made it :/
i dont know about maya, but thats what i would do in max. eather soft selection, or if i was in the mood, a loft with shapes a 0 and 100%. but yeah soft selection would probably be the best option.
Cant you make a cylinder with a bunch of loops, turn on soft selection, select the loop on one end and scale it down? edit: I dont know what soft selection is in maya, somebody translate for me :B
@sacboi I'll definitely look into that. Thank you Edit: After checking it out, it looks like all I can do in Maya is use Soft Selection. Blender's implementation seems way better. Oh well!
Hello everyone, I'm having a problem with bevel command in the Maya. When I try to apply the command, it creates the bevel with irregular face normals. The screenshot is below, does anyone know how to fix it? Thank you.
_gelo, its just the way maya handles bevel set at 2. For a more curved bevel set it at 4 and it'll work without creating extra geo. I don't know about 3 actually hah.
Crease edges in Maya was always a gamble for me. Sometimes it'd work great and sometimes I just couldn't get what I was looking for. Partly why I jumped back to 3dsmax for the smoothing groups/turbosmooth.
A quick note, Maya 2015's shrinkwrap by default will made your circle shape lopsided unless you change the projection to Vertex Normal in the options for shrinkwrap. Works like a charm though, thanks for sharing that ZacD!
