Thread OPs are 'stickyable' on every page now right? It'd be cool if EQ did that and updated the OP with big green letters and image guides of some simple solutions for common problems
That was my point (although I failed at explaining the image - before editing). I wanted to demonstrate that it's not just "fixing" after every bake, but it also looks funky if you photoshop gradients.
Thanks guys, I think I got it pretty close. There is still a little pinching on the corners, but I think I can fix that later on the normal map. :P Images: Evan
Thanks Anchang, that worked well for the bottom section, still a bit messy up top, but I might be able to work something from it :) Edit: top being the bottom the image! hah
That image is really small so I can't make out exactly what the details are. However, if I were going to model something like that, I'd first model a plane behind it with that grid pattern. Then, on top of that, I'd create splines to trace out the shape. I'd make them renderable in 3ds Max (you can loft a shape along them…

Again, for additional info, I added the link to the page the image is from in the comments of the image so it may make more sense in context of the rest of the thread. Some of the techniques might not…

For the piece that encompasses the sphere, I would look at it as a sideways sphere: (btw, these were quickly modeled, and are definitely not the same as the image, but they get the point across) and for the laser…
I was recently at a violin school for making and managed to snap some images from a blueprint sheet. Some of these images can't be found online so grab em while you can :) Enjoy! I've also included a bunch of other material to aid in modelling, hope it helps. Wire-frames are not mine, so credits to whoever made them (Sorry…
