Hey that's cool! Could you talk more about the material setup for this? This was done in UE3 right? Was it Landscape or Terrain? It looks like your material is using HeightBlend to keep the transitions sharp. Did you have a limit for how many layers you used in a given area?
For some particular scenes, could you have models placed in UDK and then take a screenshot, edit it, then apply it to the cylindrical mesh? I'm working on a jungle environment and I figured I'd model out some of the background landscape and place my meshes to fill it up a bit, then screenshot it.
Multiple materials means more draw calls, which usually means slower rendering. Also depends on the kind of model you're making. A weapon or a prop? Single material. A building? Multiple materials, and blending between bitmaps. A landscape? 1 material with multiple bitmaps blended together.
[ QUOTE ] (infacxt when i first went it really struck me as how similar the landscape could be too many old spaghetti westerns) [/ QUOTE ] oooh, now here's something I CAN chime in on...spaghetti westerns were mostly filmed in italy, not the states at all!
Did some work this morning, mainly breaking up the Silos' planks, started my final textures, and worked on atmosphere fog and lighting. Also redid my landscape as well as started my skydome :) Still want to revisit the mud, snow clumps and work more on the skydome texture more :)
posing, trying out all sorts of variations. this is fun :) “either you are part of the problem, or part of the solution. or part of the landscape.” (quote from a movie with robert de niro, don´t remember the name) “empires are the coldest of all beasts” (i read this in a book written by peter scholl latour)
I was surprised by this game , its an awesome reboot of the series and I loved the landscape and environment art done ... everything is great ... incredibly detailed, awesome ... I would have only liked to see more variations in the environments , I mean like other places not just that Island but , it was indeed great ...
I'm rather proud, it's been a long time since I've tried to do landscape painting. I'm usually very intimidated by it because of how difficult it seems, and my inability to tell distance makes it even harder. I'm hoping to do more of these things as I move on with my career.
This a thousand times this! I tried it out a couple of days ago, works amazing. But there are a few things i havent figured out yet. When i bake my lighting in UDK i get a propts that says that Landscape isnt avalible for Mobile. Even if im not baking for mobile or anything.
Uploaded with ImageShack.us landscape from ma mind. I also have tons of sketchbook pages that ive filled with studies that I have yet to scan. I just seriously have to train my eye because I really can't draw or paint from reference for shit atm
