Dammit, I should really start watching GOT :D and come up with a different name.. Thanks people, all that is really encouraging to hear. I made a few textures back when I started. Was going for a mixture of sculpted and handpainted textures. Not sure if this is the right way to go. But I'm focusing on the blockout for now.
these look great ! I love handpainted textures but I have to agree with alifarsangi on the UV space instead of rotating your blade by 45° in UV space you could also do what I do : I usually use 2:1 scaled texturemaps for swords, so something like 2048*1024
Yeah, I think Arvin got 2 materials that could be used as an almost final handpainted style, and then people could tweak that idea more. Certainly with the new pixel processor people can try doing something there that could be ideal. I'm still not that far advanced to know how to. But I believe it could be possible.
@Kumator @Giggy Thank you guys! And here's the final little update for the den. Figured i had some spare time so here goes This concludes over 50 hours of handpainting in the span of last 3 days. Gonna compile all this stuff into pretty package tomorrow and sleep for a couple of days lol
The neck armor is handpainted, but the shoe is a photo of my own boot. Thanks for the crits, positive crits from you means a lot since I think that you do bloody good work. I'll look over the texture tomorrow and see where I can use your suggestions. Green metal paint?
I second this, but I dont think removing the glow would help anything other than maybe make it call less attention to itself. That texture work down there is just super busy. Other than that, I really really enjoy it and now it makes me want to work on a handpainted piece :poly142:
awesome thanks, I'll check it out! Most of my stuff is very stylized, handpainted stuff, I have a copy at work that I'm going to test before I sign up for a sub at home, 10 bucks a month isn't bad for Mudbox...so we'll see. Will check that out tho, thanks!
To: gsokol thanks for the feedback, I'll add more edge loops for the island. Oh I was originally going with photo real textures, but I think handpainted textures for this piece would be more interesting, and I'm planning to do tilables for some pieces like the roof of the house, and the Islands. What do you think?
The only thing I think is missing is subtle color variation in the textures just to add that little bit of extra to. Its seems like the textures now is just diffrent values of the same color. Some examples from a guy named Hannes Delbekes work. http://hannesdelbeke.blogspot.se/2012/10/handpainted-textures.html
@KMNettelbladt it is looking cool! your bake is pretty nice! but i think you have to look for the wood orientation on the grip, but yeah still wip i know ;) nice! keep going! Here is where i am: changed the ornaments to a kitbashed/handpainted victorian thing. but it will work much better i think
