What file format are you using to transfer the file? Like Mr. Butcher said, .obj files should preserve the quads. I've gone from Max to Maya that way with no problems.

Mr Bear, do you happen to know where the option to turn off the SubDivisions is? I'm also have an issue similar like this but I can't find it....I'm using the August Version, by the way.
Whenever you want to improve on texturing--or whatever, you need to work off of a real life reference photo. Like Mr. Ace said is a perfect idea, model that, and texture it just like in the photo.
