While the face normals (the one from a center of each triangle ) looks perfectly up those normal are derivative as a median of vertex normals in triangles corners. The bottom left corner for example , clearly not 90 degree up . it's what creates shading gradients. Face weighting, or direct normals editing could fix it .… -

Well..you will want AO and Normal maps on a surface that you are attempting to portray an illusion of depth on....The normal map tells whatever rendering instructions you have which direction to make each pixel of your material appear to be facing...for example the tangent space normals are all on the blue channel in order… -
Faking SSS for realtime?
Hey, I was sure I saw something about this around here somewhere, but after spending ages searching, I decided to ask away. Anyone have a tutorial regarding faking SSS in unreal? I would need it for my foliage. Thanks in advance! -
Medieval mace (WIP)
Im working on a semilowpoly model for a mace. Here's what I got so far, i just found this AMAZING page with the help of Millenia who has been somewhat of a mentor to me. Im very new to "advanced" textures but any advice or critique is appreciated. Also viewable in 3D. -

nice start on the face plane studies but you are still too attached to your initial base mesh. you are not altering your base mesh that much if any in terms of the basic shape and silhouette of the head. red line shows how similar all of these heads are. try to make your face plane study more generic like so that you… -

The reason I compared it to Crysis is because I built a powerhouse PC to play it, and it plays great. I can view an entire island in maxdetail at 1680x1050 and it runs fine. I can run any game on the market, and its great... Yet GTA4 comes along, and lets face it, it was never the best looking game, and yet... I cant run… -

{Finished} 1996 Toyota Crown Comfort.
I started modelling this Toyota last month in order to practice making cars more. It's pretty close to completion but there are still a fare few things I need to do like the fog lights and the wipers.
