To +1 Ace's suggestion, at my previous job about a year ago I benchmarked POM in UE3 (on a 650ti) for a fps game and it was a very substantial perf cost that was best spent elsewhere for us. Bump Offset Mapping supplied a great compromise - and for what it's worth seems immeasurably free in most scenarios on my new GTX680.
