Different technique, separate use cases. Trim sheets are for making modular, well, trims. Decals are primarily for adding unique details. The decal rendering method can vary, with different costs and benefits, etc. It's all variable, specific.
Are you confusing weighted normals on chamfered edges with floating corner trim methods? Your floating corner trim needs to blend off into a neutral flat(no data) on the normal map. Otherwise you will get thst harsh transition.
Here's one i'm working on for the trim of the piano.. or really any trim I use on this environment. It looks a little plain .. or incorrect from the reference in some places, like the curved shapes. What do you think? model

Progress so far on the first of the trim sheets. I can really see the benefits of working in trims sheets so far, so much that i think i might just change my whole workflow and work this why from now one.

Hi guys! I wanted to practice zbrush, trim sheets, and modular kits so I combined it all into this Sci-Fi Hallway. The Mech Dog was sculpted in Zbrush while I modeled the trim sheet and modular kit in 3Ds Max and textured in Substance Painter. Any feedback for this scene would be appreciated! ul

The new setup is a lot more satisfying for me, but yeah I'm still tweaking and discovering better setups. :) Tzur_H, All walls and columns share a tileable material. I have created a trim for wall edge damages and a trim for bottom dirts.
