A few guys i work with have Dell XPS's 2 of them with the 6800s and one with a 7800 which is by far the fastest system in our office. You can customize the lower end one with a 7800 for about $3000 or they have thier high end one thats about $4200. Edit: Dont ever get extra ram from dell, unless you want to pay like $800… -

A DUDV map is simlar to a normal map, except you only need two channels, which correspond to U and V in the pixel shader. Thanks for your answers guys. @Vig Was thinking about the first method you describe and as far as I can tell it would work great with big, semi-repetitive levels where it would be faster to create 3-5 textures and then produce lets say 20-40 overlaying textures which would then break up the repetition.
