@Ashervisalis @JamesBrisnehan Thanks that s totally true!! I think I got a bit overexcited with breaking stuff indeed haha; when I first tried that scene setup I tried by simply laying the “broken” statue on the ground and it was way easier to read indeed
you should read some tutorials on uv mapping. and learn how to do good uv layouts. learn some 2d photoshop painting techniques. learn how to use a 3d paint app like zbrush, mudbox, mari. its really a broad question.
Its reading things like this and this whole subject really that make me wonder, it was harder for us to go to uni than our mothers and fathers generation and it many cases they didn't need to. So what's it going to be like for the generations below us? I dread to think.

After reading this thread I decided to pick it up. Now I am ruined on trying to get work done on the portfolio. :( But at the same time it is inspiring looking at all the environments. I just need to break away from playing and get some work done.
This started out as a few broad strokes which turned into this rock texture: Im still not sure if the levels are reading properly, it looks fine on my monitor, but on my cintiq (the original 21x grey ones) it looks dark. So Im trying to balance a happy medium.
