Tumerboy: For that many tiny rivets, I'd probably go with painting them in a bumpmap later. I've fiddled alot with placing 3d rivets along surfaces in Max too though, and I'm not really happy with any method I've tried so far. Either I clone them out along a path, scatter them out to vertices of proxy geometry, or place…
Hi guys, I can't for the life of me get this shape right... I mean, I can block out the basic form but when it comes to making it SubD ready - Well yeah, there's the problem. Flippen annoying, although it looks so simple! I don't have any pics of what I've managed to form out, I keep deleting the files in annoyance and…
Cleaning up stray verts from Pro bool ops is a huge waste of time! Welding verts via increased thresholds is one alternative, but it leads to Imprecise holes even if the overall look is perfectly passable. Cue this handy dandy little 3rd party helper. Run your probool op as you normally would, before collapsing to a edit P…
Hi all, So this is how I create hard L shape crease on curved surface Need some further advice if this can be solved in a better way (without open subd / smooth group methods though those are easy :D ) Also in second picture from top, that kind of face deformation (highlighted face) acceptable or not? Hell ocd took over I…
-I just took a random amount of edges, you will have to work out how many you need for that :p 1) Make a cylinder (having 1 cap segment is helpfull to make the selection) Select 2 edges, skip 2 (or you could do like 2-3, 1-2, depends on what you need) and scale them in as much as is needed 2) remove the top 3) with border…
@perna Awesome, thanks a bunch for the help. It's a no-go for my original quad sphere since scaling the cube down as small as possible still results in tris. I tried the stack you suggested with various Relax values, but it still results in an imperfect sphere and tris. It's probably because I'm unaware of the magic…
Hello world! (No scripting/programming languages were harmed in the making of this introduction) So I am running into my lack of experience barrier on modeling some of these shapes. I'll probably just move over to floating geo in the name of progress, but for the future I would love to note a good way to do this. The major…
I know its a bit to ask but maybe a quick vid of how you did that? I was doing a character a while ago similar where I was using the plugin "slide knit" (which I think is the script your talking about) but my ENTIRE character had chainmail on so I had to do a full body, I had issues were parts meet like on seems etc and…
Thanks for the (indeed verry fast) replies guys ;) I tried modeling this as one piece but that is giving me just the same problem, seems like the only way to get them planar is by verex pushing, since make planar or the likes will screw up the surfaces tuching the borders. I will try to do a rough shape consisting of 5…
When I connect the train to a path constraint, the pistons flew else where in 3D space. As you can apparently see, near the top left hand corner is where the piston is at in perspective view while the train is on the spline. I was basing the animation concept from this bonus chapter on "Rigging the Hudson" by Chris Harvey.…
