I don't know what exactly TC_Default is doing. But they do advise simply using TC_NormalmapUncompressed with half the resolution (i.e. 512x512 instead of 1024x1024), which results in the same memory cost as a 1024 DXT1, but with no compression artifacts. -

Have you ... "customize > preferences > viewport tab .. configure driver > background texture size set to 1024 and checked match bitmap as close as possible?" That might help, not too sure of other things you can do .. -

I think the textures dont look sharp enough for being that high resulotion.. It looks like you have made the textures in 512 and then resized them to 1024. Or... Have you saved them as .jpg with low quality? -

Hahah, @JacqueChoi yes they are actual Villains. @Orgoth02 from my old website, I just had a 1024 of it next to my weapon to show off my Diffuse... but I didn't watermark it so.. they just napped it. -

Beautiful mechs. Can't wait to work on projects where I can have 4K texture sets, let alone 2k. I'm stuck with 1024 sets for first person weapons, and 512 sets for console version. -

Its looking great, really want to see a wireframe and UV, at least the oclusion if possible. Using 1024 ? 2048 ? I think your big challenge now will be creating some dirt and a good specular map for it. GJ ! -

The graffiti will be Decals in the end, just fancied having a play with them XD Also thought I would show the barbed wire, its basically a 1024 x 256 tiling texture wrapping around the helix plane -

@MrPie: Thanks! Laundry Trolley, finished with it. 8460 tris, 1024 diff/spec/norm Back into the handpainted models for now, thar be a wolf to finish. Wanting to revisit the industrial laundry theme with some more assets soon. -
Re: UDK weird lightmap shadowing.
The borders on the lightmap are clamped, no wrapping around and bleeding like on other textures. You say the shadows become more visible with higher lightmap resolutions? Could you post a picture of what it looks like with a 1024 map? -
