indeed, this is something i learned when i started doing modular scenarios. unique uvs might look nice, but for actual stuff its unbearable. a whole building can be done with a single uv set, including some props like signs, doors and stuff.
There is not reason why a cabin should have 8 2048 texture maps on it, and have no way of being broken into multiple different assets. You should look into how to build modular assets, how to use a grid system in your textures, and how create tileable textures.
Just saying hi. I'm currently trying my hand at modular environments as I love buildings and architecture. I'm stuck with a UV problem though and came here to see if anyone could assist, but I have to make a post here first, so here it is :)
Thought I'd start posting some of the stuff I've been messing with. I'm always taking feedback, so if you got something to say I'd like to hear it. Soo here's my WIPS... modular wall and the diffuse and a building i've been tweaking Thanks for stopping by.
I've been working on the generator machinery based on an earlier concept. This is the completed high-poly model and I'm currently in between building the low-poly. The pipes are all modular so I can move them around based on what looks best for the scene. Original concept:
Cool, I thought about making one of these things before. though I'd have taken some slightly modular approach with it to be able to build more variations. Btw, why "belgian" boolean? You live in the US, most people there don't even know Belgium haha.
xaxa, all this stuff happens all the time, i love cutting up the modularity in buildings when i walk around, and i hate when i dream model. Im glad im not the only one seeing polygons. Sometimes more than other times
I'd be quite interested in how Houdini helped with the level design. I guess they created some modular pieces in a CAD software of their choice and piped them into a procedural graph that spat out complete buildings and backdrops. But that part of the interview can also mean anything else really.
Took me a while to find this thread. Apologies if there is a new thread. I started building a Eurorack modular synth (bye bye money) and this is my first little noodle. Totally random and me just twiddling knobs. Loads of fun! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07fQIE7zFPE
I hope you have done that house in a modular way if so could you post the building blocks? I also recommend disabling the view cube, i know its about personal preference but i think its a better workflow to work without it. :D
