I have a really hard time imagining the core poly modeling workflow in Maya stagnating much more than it already has. It's fucking 2012. If you don't even have a shift-drag open edge extrude or equivalent, you're flat-out not trying.
I used a spline to roughly get the right size en simply extruded a plane along the spline, then I added some thickness. I gave the weapon a Zbrush pass, so there I messed around with it some more :) hope it helps! Thanks sun_smasher! :D
Thanks guys :) Another update, fixed the engraving - had to flatten the blade and delete all poly's to a flat plane then extrude borders and create loads of control edges etc. Should be able to load up the original blade shape and follow that with the improved edge flow...tomorrow!
Nice, but IMO the bricks as a separe boxes look a lot better if U will give them different color then the wall. Some more yellow, dark yellow woll be better. If u take closer look on a concept u will see that this extruded have a bit different color.
aye dude that axe aint gonna be cutting anything without sharp edges or any edges, for that matter. unless the view fails me, it looks like your actual blade parts are just extruded out and not brought together. first thing I'd say to fix!
1 : cut tool is the least steps - use snapping if you find it awkward 2 : delete the middle face and use bridge 3 : i usually just shift-extrude an edge and target weld it back together
Here's some progress. I tweaked a bit the proportions and did the high poly for everything. I'll tweak the face some more later. I blocked in some hairs as single side geometry that I will extrude later.
Loved the window sliders part. Funny how all these things are somehow doable in our current day in Sketchup (the draw outline - extrude shape part), but not even close to be found in the most powerful apps! Nerd out!
You have too much detail in those windows and your satallite. I don't think you really need to have the windows extruding inwards. And you probably don't need that many sides on your satallite.
the arms and legs could use a bit more work, they don't extrude out of the body the same way as your concept design, very noticeable in the crotch area. refer back to your concept and also that rayman rabbit
