Update! One of my tutors helped me through one of my big gripes with the textures in my diorama! Taught me a little Blizzard trick to make my textures more defined. Ugh, so SO much better. I no longer cringe at my blobby textures.
Finally getting around to another update. It took a lot longer to figure out my pipeline than anticipated; I wan't to go for a stylized feel but not the 'traditional' blizzard style, it took some doing and it definitely needs iteration once I can see quantities of models and materials but so far I like it.
@Optimus thank you! I referenced o/w a lot for it First texturing update, anisotropic hair just doesn't come out as good as blizzard's (it's not aniso here) if anyone has an insight to it please share! The stomach device thing still feels weird, I might swap it if I find something better.
Didnt know you posted over here jouste, again, awesome stuff. Also, I was sneaking through blizzard in my dream last night and as it turns out you were working there. I don't remember what my dream impression of you looked like but the art was definitely yours. How weird is that?
i always thought that orcs just dyed the roots of their facial hair and left the rest brown. Some ancient custom or something. Great work, thought about submitting it to blizzards fanart thing they do? Its depressing that WoW Came out today and i'm not going to be playing for some time because im poor
I would recommend what one of Blizzard's concept artist uses. Its a brush set that after some use is quite perfect for that hand painted texture look. You can get it at his deviant art page here: http://mr--jack.deviantart.com/gallery/?q=brushes#/d1yc98d
You mentioned that you want to do Blizzard's style artwork. Doing pure hand painted work would actually be a lot less technical (no sculpting) and I feel like it would be beneficial to learn that first. That stuff pretty much requires a tablet though, do you have one?
So I sent out my resume and cover letter to people... (Naughty Dog, Blizzard, and a couple of other local small places.) Nothing yet... Going to keep arting it up and freaking out about rent. lol Still got some places to send my stuff too.
He has "deformed cylinder arms", and no proper elbows. I think you need to at least roughly define a bicep and tricep shape, even if you'ree relying on textures to describe them properly. Otherwise, he looks quite nicely proportioned. Good luck with the Blizzard comp, if that's what he's for.
If anyone ever doubted the effect of the internet on movies the Juggernaut quote just solidifed its position.. I mean how does something like that make its way into a movie? hahaha.. who wants to take bets that in the Warcraft movie blizzard is having made will have a reference to "Leeroy Jenkins" in it?
